Northern Saskatchewan 2012 - More Fresh Food

Fireweed plants.  Use stems, leaves, flowers and seed pods in a fresh salad.  Especially common after forest fire.  It is my favourite salad and rivals anything served in a restaurant.

Blueberries.  Most common by the second year after a forest fire.  I ate one cup of berries per meal for at least 40 dinners in August and September, and could have picked an unlimited number.  I moved through areas with many blueberries and because of this had numerous bear sightings and several problems with bears.  Bears tend to move into berry-rich areas.
